School of Hard Knocks

School of Hard Knocks returns to Sky Sports for a new seven-part series. A rugby initiative which helps unemployed men re-evaluate their lives through sports and self confidence building exercises to improve themselves and their chances of finding work.

School of hard knocks is a program that works with unemployed men, aged 18-24 years old from East London. Participants will undertake weekly rugby training sessions Supported by the Olympic Host boroughs and The London Metropolitan Police.

Some participants are unemployed with no skills or qualifications, while others have been heavily involved in crime or drugs and realise that they need to make a change.

Participants will work through modules that include Job Interview techniques, Self-motivation lectures, and Anger management in the work place. There are also several social modules designed to improve the recruit’s lives at home that deals with nutritional advice, drug and sexual health lectures,

These sessions aim to build upon the team work and discipline on the pitch, teaching life and job skills in order to help them to build their CVs, and give them the confidence to complete job interviews in the real world.

This year the programme is being filmed in an area of London with a history of violent crime and very little rugby awareness. Participants have 8 weeks to train before they play a full match against experienced opposition.

This is the third year of the scheme that has already helped 80% of the recruits find employment and thus is a very useful tool for local councils to help reduce crime rates and unemployment statistics. This is a television programme that aims to make a difference in society that is damaged by unemployment and crime.

Dominic will be doing an exclusive interview with Sky Sports and will be giving these young men advice regarding business and presentation skills within the work place. Dominic will also be giving an insight to his background and successful company, Comtact ltd.
